Ellen Pollock (1902-1997) was President of the Shaw Society for 40 years until her death in 1997. Her career as actor, producer and director ranged over many genres from farce to tragedy and everything in between, with particular expertise in character roles. She appeared widely in theatre, film, television and radio, and also taught at RADA in the 1950s. Ellen was a passionate Shavian, and one of Shaw’s favourite actresses – one his ‘three Ellens’ alongside Ellen O’Malley and Ellen Terry. She created the roles of Sweetie in the UK premieres of Too True to be Good (1932) and Aloysia Brollikins in On the Rocks (1933).
